Meet the employer Apprenticeship Event
27th July 2017
Simian recently held an event that brought together both employers and individuals interested in beginning their career in the scaffolding industry.
Delegates with an interest in Scaffolding Apprenticeships from all over the North West were in attendance and heard informative talks from Lise Mountfort, Simian’s Apprentice Coordinator, Steve Teare, Simian’s Health & Safety Advisor who started out as an Apprentice, and Simian’s MD, Simon Hughes.
This was a fantastic opportunity for would-be industry new entrants to meet and chat with well-known employers within the construction industry, including: Allied Scaffolding Ltd, Cheshire Scaffolds Ltd and Taylor Wimpey.
The event itself was supported by Careers for Young People , a service that provides careers advice and guidance to young people in the Warrington area. Their aim is to help young people remain in education until the age of 18 through a number of different ways, including apprenticeship schemes, making Careers for Young People a great fit to support the Meet the Employer event.
Speaking after the event, Simon Hughes said, “Simian has an enviable record for Apprentice output and we’re delighted to do what we can to attract more young people into the construction industry. We’re very proud to have been added to the Register of Approved Training Providers (RoATP), and are confident that the number of apprentices passing through our Training Centres will grow even more over the next few years.
Pairing potential apprentices with prospective employers is one way of ensuring this and we intend this event to be the first in a series of open days that will allow young people to pop into our centre and learn a little bit about the scaffolding apprenticeship scheme that Simian offers and what it entails”.
Lise Mountfort, Simian’s Apprentice Coordinator said, “It’s fantastic to see so many young people keen to learn about a career in scaffolding. For many, this will be their first real job and we appreciate that the whole process can seem daunting, so it’s our aim to make sessions as informative and relaxed as we possibly can”.
