Now a fully qualified Part 2 scaffolder, Shannon has joined the ranks of Kaefer, the company where her father once worked, at the Hinkley Point C project.
For Shannon, the path to becoming a qualified scaffolder was one paved with determination and a keen interest in the construction industry. After being laid off from her previous job, an exciting opportunity presented itself in the form of an apprenticeship as a scaffolder, thanks to a recommendation from her father who worked as a safety advisor at Kaefer.
With a strong curiosity about scaffolding and previous experiences working alongside skilled professionals in the trade, Shannon embarked on her journey with enthusiasm. She completed her COTS (Construction Operatives Training Scheme) course, a crucial step in gaining access to construction sites across the United Kingdom.
A year later, Shannon attended her Part 1 training at SIMIAN Weston-Super-Mare, which allowed her to develop essential skills and knowledge, laying the foundation for her future growth in the industry.
Shannon’s dedication and hard work paid off as she progressed to her Part 2 training, once again at our Weston centre. Surrounded by a supportive group of delegates, she thrived in an environment filled with camaraderie and a shared passion for the industry. Shannon says the instructors at SIMIAN played a pivotal role, imparting their extensive knowledge and industry expertise, ensuring Shannon and her peers received top-notch training.
In February 2024, Shannon achieved a significant milestone by earning her NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) in scaffolding. This accomplishment paved the way for her to take the one-day skills test, which she successfully passed on April 26, 2024, at SIMIAN.
Now a fully qualified Part 2 scaffolder, Shannon has joined the ranks of Kaefer, the company where her father once worked, at the Hinkley Point C project. With her newly acquired skills and knowledge, she is eager to contribute to this ambitious construction endeavour and continue honing her craft.
Shannon’s journey serves as an inspiration to those seeking a rewarding career in the scaffolding industry.
