Worker dies following accident at Peterhead Asda

A worker tragically died at a Peterhead Asda store earlier this month, following an incident involving a moving digger bucket that appeared to have knocked the worker from scaffolding that was erected at the site.

Emergency services were called to the scene at lunchtime on the 16^th July, where an extension is currently underway on the existing Asda store. Eyewitnesses described hearing ‘’screams and shouts’ from workmen during and following the incident, with one woman stating that colleagues of the worker were trying to resuscitate him prior to the emergency services arriving. Sadly, the worker was pronounced dead shortly after ambulances arrived.

The accident saw police seal off the area, allowing no pedestrians or vehicles to access the Asda, which was subsequently evacuated. An investigation into the incident has begun by police in Scotland, alongside the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Sadly, this is just one of many accidents that we have seen over the past few months, involving scaffolding, ultimately setting a stark reminder to the industry as a whole the great importance of having high standards of health and safety on sites at all times.
