SIMIAN Welcomes Year 9 Students for LASC Workshop
6th May 2022
In late February we were very happy to welcome students from Highams Park School who are interested in a career in the scaffolding industry, to our London Academy for Sustainable Construction (LASC) for a three hour workshop with the SIMIAN team.
What does the workshop involve?
Following a briefing and risk assessment, students are then able to move onto a practical in scaffolding, which includes building Tube & Fitting System towers. Students then take part in a Virtual Reality demonstration and practical workshop; this is, as you would expect, always a huge hit!
Highams Park School took advantage of our offer, with 12 students joining us at our LASC centre (and thoroughly enjoying themselves!).
Take a look below at the feedback received from students on their experience with us:
“The students were shown the facilities and what takes place within the academy. They were able to take part in a demonstration which required getting suited up in safety equipment, included hard hats and boots to the delight of the students.
They all engaged with practical workshop and worked well together as a team when assembling and dismantling the scaffolding project assigned to them. I was so proud of the way students conducted themselves throughout the morning taking on different challenges. They were respectful and embraced the tasks with maturity which made this trip more rewarding.
Students left more knowledgeable about the construction industry and the different possibilities available. The general comments were how much they enjoyed the workshop.” – Lisa Charlton, Careers Advisor/ Coordinator, Highams Park School.
