SIMIAN Supports #NAW2022
7th February 2022
07 – 13 February 2022 will mark the 15th annual National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) in England, and the SIMIAN team have been busily preparing for our own celebrations at our LASC centre.
What is National Apprenticeship Week?
NAW showcases the positive impact that Apprenticeships can provide businesses and the wider economy, and each year focuses on a particular theme, with 2022’s theme focusing on ‘build the future’.
For the construction industry, this year’s theme is very apt following 2021’s strong emphasis on the industry needing the skills required for ‘green construction’.
Apprenticeships with SIMIAN
Of course, Apprenticeships form a significant part of SIMIAN’s services, as we welcome cohorts all year round.
This year, we are celebrating NAW with a week of events, designed to support the local communities in which we work, and highlight the benefits of Apprenticeships to both individuals and businesses.
Events at LASC
Our LASC centre will play host to a job festival for the London Borough of Waltham Forest and its neighbouring boroughs. Here, prospective apprentices, who may be school leavers or those currently unemployed, will have the opportunity to meet with employers, speak to training providers (including SIMIAN) and ultimately get valuable insight into the construction industry.
We will have large industry bodies, such as the Ministry of Building Innovation and Education (MOBIE), who will host workshops, provide a look into the future of housing and what these may look like, modern methods of construction and, of course, talk about careers in construction.
In our main hangar at LASC there will be 28 stands of industry experts including, scaffolding companies, roofing companies and major contractors, all looking to provide insight and even those actively recruiting for roles. This will take place between 1pm and 5pm on Wednesday 9th February.
Events in Southampton
During the week, team SIMIAN will also be travelling to Southampton for Apprentice Awareness Day. In partnership with Southampton Council, this event will again provide insight into a number of areas of construction, from using Layher, health and safety, safety around scaffolding and even HR representatives who will be on hand with application forms and will guide potential apprentices through the Apprenticeship route with Skill Scaffolding Limited – a long-standing SIMIAN customer and one of the largest scaffolding contractors in the south of England.
Speaking of the Southampton Apprentice Awareness Day, Business Development Manager for the South East, Sara Calvo, said:
“For both employers and prospective apprentices, all of our #NAW2022 events will provide a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the Apprenticeship schemes available and the benefits they can have on a business. Modern construction requires modern skills, and therefore these apprenticeships provide an effective platform for home-grown talent who will be moulded into the professionals needed for the future of their contracts.”
