Simian Restarts Scaffolding Training

Today we have opened the doors to our Warrington Training Centre, for the start of our pilot training week, as we aim to test the water prior to recommencing the full delivery of our scaffolding training services.

Training at our centres has been suspended since late March when the Government announced the UK’s COVID-19 lockdown. Our consultancy support of scaffolding sites has continued throughout on, and we have recently run a series of virtual Toolbox Talks to ensure learning continues, and these have been a tremendous success. However, there is no substitute for attending a physical training course.

During the first week, we will be running one class per day and for the first week, this will comprise a Basic Scaffold Inspection course and a Scaffolder’s CPD Refresher course.  During this week, we will be able to fully check the arrangements we have put in place to keep delegates and our team members safe, and also to fully establish what the ‘new normal’ looks like in terms of scaffolding training.


Speaking of the reopening of centres, Operations Director and Principal Consultant here at SIMIAN, Dave Randles, has said:

“The arrangements we are implementing include physical amendments to the training centre. These include additional washing facilities, sanitisation stations and layout changes to classrooms, site entry and exit processes and this will extend to including a brief site entry questionnaire and taking non-contact forehead temperature readings of those in the centre.

Social distancing will be maintained and to help achieve this we have established a one-way system to walkway areas and temporarily reducing the centre’s overall capacity, until we can ensure we can operate safely under the new measures.”

As construction sites begin to reopen following the loosening of restrictions by the Government, the continuation of Scaffolder training will be particularly good news to those who are looking to renew their CISRS cards, as there has effectively been a hiatus of card renewals for the period of the lockdown.

To limit the number of people working in our centres, only customer-facing staff will be at our centres, and other staff will continue to be home-based, at least for the time being.
