25th April 2018

On Wednesday 11th April 2018, Simian’s Managing Director, Simon Hughes attended the Health & Safety Event 2018, held in Birmingham’s NEC.

The Health & Safety Event brings together industry experts from notable health and safety bodies and businesses, providing an opportunity to network, attend educational seminars, meet experts and is concluded with an awards ceremony. The three-day event attracted over 6,000 visitors, housed 200 exhibition stands, held 48 conference and seminar sessions and provided expert guidance from 45 speakers.

During the event Simon represented the National Access & Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) during a panel Q&A session, as the panel’s scaffolding expert. Here he discussed and provided his own expert view on working at height and preventing falls, one of the key features of this year’s event.

Accompanied by representatives from 3M, AIF, PASMA and IPAF, the panel discussed a number of topics including, working at height procedures, PPE and other fall prevention equipment, rescue plans and training for those working at height.

The event also marked the launch of a brand-new charity, dedicated entirely to those who work at height. The ‘No Falls Foundation’ is sponsored by PASMA and all member organisations of the Access Industry Forum (AIF). The charity aims to reduce the risk off falls and injuries that those working at height face, to research and understand the causes of falls and falling objects, as well as to support those affected by falls or injuries as a result of working at height.

Speaking of his time at the event Simon has said: “It has been a privilege to not only come to the event, but be given the opportunity to speak to those working within the scaffolding industry on how they can effectively work safely at height. Simian’s ethos is to improve safety standards at sites across the globe, and it was great to come together with others that hold the same goals.”
