Simian Opens Construction Door for Londoners

6th April 2021

As a Mayor of London Construction Academy Quality Marked Provider, the SIMIAN team has been beavering away behind the scenes to launch a series of Pre-employment Training Schemes (PETS).

London Academy for Sustainable Construction

Based at our Waltham Forest Centre – now branded as the London Academy for Sustainable Construction (LASC), the courses are intended to help Londoners back into work and into various pathways for in-demand construction trades, which include:

  • Scaffolding – 19 April & 17 May
  • Steel Fixing – 12 April
  • Roofing – 10 May
  • Lead Sheeting – 21 June
  • General Construction – 07 June

All of the courses involve a five-day work placement, so give the ideal opportunity for would-be employees to demonstrate their worth to prospective employers, first-hand. Additionally, all candidates who successfully complete the training will be awarded an industry recognised qualification – which will be the first step on their newly chosen career path.

Sara Calvo, Simian’s South East-based Business Development Manager said:

“It’s fantastic to get our Pre-Employment training courses off the ground and to be able to give Londoners the opportunity to get back into full-time employment into a number of disciplines that have been selected on the basis of current workforce shortages.

On top of becoming qualified and getting an industry recognised qualification, such as a CISRS COTS card, or a CSCS card, candidates will also get a significant amount of face-to-face time with employers and so develop the early part of a mutually beneficial working relationship.

Spaces are filling fast, so we’d advise those that may be interested to make contact as soon as they possible can. This will give them the opportunity to select which course they would prefer to attend.”

Those interested in signing up for our PETS courses, or even if they just wish to find out more, should contact Sara Calvo by email (scalvo@simian-risk.com) or by telephone on 0345 6022 418.
