SIMIAN Celebrates International Women’s Day 2024
7th March 2024
Today is International Women’s Day 2024, a day dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of women across social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. As a company operating in an industry often characterised as male-dominated, here at SIMIAN, we are committed to challenging this notion.
We strive to foster diversity within our workforce and actively promote opportunities for women to pursue careers in construction. Our goal is to support women throughout their professional journey in the industry.
There are countless opportunities for women in the construction industry both on and off-site and we are proud to celebrate all the women at SIMIAN today.
As part of our celebration of IWD, we sat down with our Admin Team Leader here at SIMIAN, Elise Simpson in our latest ‘Meet the team’ feature:
Meet Elise
A bit about your role
I started as an apprentice and have worked my way up within 3 years and I am proud of that achievement for my age. I am responsible for the admin team at Warrington, my main areas of responsibility include:
- Welcoming delegates and ensuring they are signed into centre for the day
- Providing all the relevant course paperwork
- Chase up evidence for all commercial courses to ensure they are able to attend
- Invigilate CSCS Health & Safety Tests
- Apply for delegates certificates and cards once they have completed the course
- Ensure the database is kept up to date with all relevant course and delegate information
Can you describe a typical day at Simian?
No day at SIMIAN is the same, from meeting different new starters to ensuring those already training with us have everything they need, it’s a very diverse role.
I enjoy being a friendly welcoming face at Warrington.
Is there one aspect of your work in particular that you most enjoy?
I like being on the phones – I just like talking a lot! I also love the social side with my colleagues, hearing about their stories and weekend plans.
In your opinion, what is the most important piece of guidance you give youngsters making their way in the industry?
I would say personally the apprentice route is the best especially for the construction industry, as if you are going into it straight from school, you can earn right away whilst learning towards your career.
What would be your dream job?
I would like to be in a managerial role or a role within HR
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I have a list! I would like to visit Hawaii, Jamaica and Australia
Favourite film?
That’s a really hard question as I like loads of films – Marley & me or step brothers.
Favourite food?
My mum’s roast dinner, its banging!
Pub or wine bar?
I like both, I would start at the pub and then go onto the wine bar
