Scaffolder Suffers Fatal Injury After Fall From Height

27th June 2023

An investigation is underway after a scaffolder sadly passed away at hospital following a serious accident.

The 57-year-old, who was originally from Scotland but lived in King’s Lynn, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after falling from a roof. Sadly, he later died in hospital on 10th May 2023.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) are investigating the incident and the coroner has scheduled a pre-inquest review hearing to be held on September 12. We will only know more about the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident and whether it could have been prevented, once the HSE has carried out its investigation.

At this present time, we cannot speculate on the incident and what precautions or safety measures could have been put in place to prevent this fatality. However, the accident serves as a stark reminder to all those involved in working at height to always adhere to the relevant guidelines and the highest standards of health and safety.

This news comes following a recent report from NASC of a significant reduction in accidents in the scaffolding industry. One death is too many and whilst the report is welcome news, incidents such as this one demonstrates that there is still work to be done to improve the safety of scaffolders and others who are working at height.
