Scaffold Collapse on Busy Liverpool High Street
23rd May 2022
A scaffold collapsed in Wavertree, Liverpool in late March, damaging two vans.
The incident occurred on a busy High Street, and saw scaffolding erected on a disused pub topple over, landing on top of two vans parked on the road next to the pub. No injuries were reported as a result of the collapse.
Police attended the scene and it is likely an investigation will now be underway to determine the exact cause of the collapse. It is understood that the pub had not been open in some time.
It is crucial that scaffolds are regularly inspected to ensure their stability. Inspections should be carried out by a qualified professional who will inform you of any issues that has the potential to compromise the integrity of the structure. Inspections of scaffolds that are not being used for access do not necessarily need to be carried out every seven days, but steps must be implemented to ensure that the structure remains stable, and risk assessment is the ideal way of establishing what the actual inspection intervals should be.
