Scaffold collapse in Belgium kills one
28th November 2018
A scaffolding collapse in Antwerp, Belgium at the end of October, has sadly left one worker dead and another seriously injured.
The victims had been working on the seven-storey high scaffolding when it collapsed during the mid-morning, into the street below. Emergency services attended the scene and searched for any workers potentially trapped under the collapsed structure but found no further victims.
The cause of the collapse is unclear as of yet, with investigations underway as to determine what happened.
Incidents such as these highlight the importance of adhering to scaffolding safety requirements during the erection of the scaffolding and also during the ongoing inspection regime.
