NASC Launches SG4:15
27th November 2015
The much anticipated update to the well renowned scaffolding guidance note SG4:15 has been launched by the NASC at a packed AGM at the Queens Hotel, Leeds.
Basic Principles Remain
This revision, the latest in a long line of updates was reviewed in line with the NASC’s five-year guidance update policy and contains a slight change in its title, which is now, ‘Preventing Falls in Scaffolding Operations’.
Previous versions of this popular publication, which is widely regarded by scaffold businesses, HSE, Principal Contractors and other industry stakeholders as the ‘go to’ standard for Scaffolder safety, have seen significant changes in the recommended methods for Scaffolders working at height but this version is viewed as more of a fine-tuning exercise rather than reinvention of the wheel and so many of the previous underpinning principles remain unchanged.
What’s New?
The new edition of SG4 maintains many of the the same principles of approach, but also contains several new areas of guidance that have been included to reflect the availability of new innovations, changes to recognised ‘good practice’ and the fact that the scope of TG20:13 (‘A Comprehensive Guide to Good Practice for Tube & Fitting Scaffolding’) has widened and has increased the number of compliant (or ‘non-complex’) scaffolds. New additions include guidance on:
- Chimney scaffolds
- Bridging with beams
- Floor height lifts
- Cantilever scaffolds
- New PFPE (Personal Fall Protection Equipment)
- Loading bay gate installation
