Meet the Employer in Waltham Forest
19th January 2022
In support of National Apprenticeship Week 2022 – #NAW2022 – our London Academy of Sustainable Construction (LASC), in Waltham Forest will be hosting a Meet the Employer event.
Taking place on Wednesday 09 February 2022 between 1pm and 5pm, the event is aimed at school leavers and the unemployed, and it will showcase the benefits and opportunities of a career in the construction industry.
Construction employers from across London will be exhibiting and will be on hand to provide practical career advice to delegates. In addition, four sector-specific career talks will take place by industry experts:
- A career in Scaffolding – SIMIAN
- An introduction to the roofing industry – Langley Roofing
- Lead and hard metal training and career opportunities – Lead Sheet Training Academy
- Air source heat pump training – Cool Energy
MOBIE – the Ministry of Building Innovation + Education, founded by TV presenter and Architect, George Clarke (you know – him from TV programmes such as Amazing Spaces and The Restoration Man!) will be hosting an interactive ‘future of construction’ event, where delegates will be tasked with designing the homes of the future, with a focus on modern methods of construction.
The London Borough of Waltham Forest Council will be hosting a session on Females in Construction (read more about that here) – and this will include a Q&A session, featuring a panel of female construction specialists
In conjunction with The Construction Wales Innovation Centre (CWIC) and CITB, we will also be demonstrating our state-of-the-art immersive learning capability, and those attending will be given the chance to build a virtual scaffold, fly a virtual drone and construct a virtual building!
Speaking ahead of the event, Ian Harris, SIMIAN’s Customer Relationship Director said, “This event has been a while in the planning and we’re excited at the prospect of showcasing a potential career in the construction industry to the residents of Waltham Forest and the wider London region.
It’s very well known that that the construction industry is facing a critical skills shortage, so giving the opportunity for potential apprentices and workers to meet employers and vice versa is just one of the initiatives we have planned to help bridge the construction skills gap. There will be lots to see and do on the day, and we’re sure that anyone attending will find it hugely beneficial.”
Schools, school leavers or individuals wishing to attend to find out what a career in the construction industry entails should register their interest with Sara Calvo, our south east Business Development Manager, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Employers with an interest in Apprenticeships in Scaffolding, Roofing or Groundworks should also contact Sara by email.
