Kim Eccles

Could you please tell us about your past experience in the scaffolding industry?

When joining Simian, I was new to the scaffolding industry.  I started to learn from the beginning and feel I have gained excellent knowledge within the industry, still with lots to learn.

Can you describe a typical day at Simian Risk?

A typical day at Simian can vary from day to day, meeting new people and maintaining already working relationships, helping customers to book courses or general queries about scaffolding. Everyone is friendly and always ready to help.

Is there one aspect of your work in particular that you most enjoy?

I particularly enjoy building and maintaining relationships with customers and colleagues.

What advice would you give those considering a career in the scaffolding industry?

Scaffolding can be a rewarding career with lots of opportunities to meet different people, visiting different places and progressing within the industry.  There is lots of support within the industry to help those wishing to start in the industry.

In your opinion, what is the most important piece of guidance you give youngsters entering the industry?

My most important piece of guidance I would give to youngsters entering the industry would be to believe in yourself and you can do anything you set your mind to.

Before working at Simian, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Before working with Simian, I worked with vulnerable young people.  This was a very rewarding and challenging job at the same time.

Aside from working in a scaffolding training centre, what would be your dream job?

Anything that made me a millionaire!

If you could visit anywhere in their world, where would it be?

Australia, especially the Great Barrier Reef.

Favourite sports team?

The Warriors! Being a Wigan lass, rugby league is in my DNA!

Favourite film?

Tough one! Either Coyote Ugly or One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest.

Favourite food?

All food is my favourite, but I do love Haribo’s. (Kim is famed in the office for the most unusual food combinations ever seen – Soup and crisps?! Are you kidding? – Ed)

Have you ever had your 15 minutes of fame?

No, sadly not – that’s still to come!
