Man rescued from scaffolding in Shropshire

Fire and ambulance crews were called to an incident in Shropshire last month, after a worker had suffered a medical emergency whilst working on scaffolding.

The worker was still on the scaffolding when emergency staff arrived at the scene, and was recovered safely by fire crews, receiving treatment before being transported to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Later in the day the Twitter account for the Craven Arms Fire Station provided an update on the worker, confirming that he had suffered only minor injuries during the incident.

It is, as of yet, unclear as to what the medical emergency was specifically during the incident, however it does highlight the importance of ensuring all those working on scaffolding utilise the appropriate safe equipment such as safety harnesses to reduce the risk of serious injury should incidents or medical emergencies occur. Additionally, the planning of work at height should also include provision for dealing with emergency situations at height and this is most commonly done by producing a rescue plan. The plan should outline who will be involved, what equipment will be needed, any specific competence requirements and what needs to be done, to ensure the rescue is carried out expediently.
