Two injured after scaffold collapses in Lancashire

5th April 2023

HSE are investigating after a Blackpool scaffold collapsed on Monday 03 April, resulting in multiple injuries.

The two workmen are understood to have been carrying out building works to a Solicitor’s office in the Lytham Road area of the town, when one elevation of the scaffold came down.

The exact circumstances of the incident are unknown, but it is reported that one of the workers has suffered multiple injuries, including a broken hip, fractured neck, two broken wrists and a small bleed on the brain, and the other has sustained rib injuries.

Local radio presenter, Sean Ryan, 47, witnessed the incident and with another passer-by, assisted in getting the injured workers to safety. Mr Ryan is quoted as saying that the men ‘are lucky to be alive’.

Speaking of the incident, SIMIAN’s Scaffolding H&S Advisor, Dallas Cooper, said:

“It’s too early to establish the cause of this incident, but generally, collapses can be prevented by sound planning of access provision and consideration of the works that  will be carried out.

We wish both of the workers a speedy recovery.”
