CITB to end global support
26th September 2016
For 45 years the CITB has been involved in construction industry training at approved centres overseas. At the time of writing the CITB website still provides information on becoming an international training centre but according to trade press the decision was made in August that they would withdraw provision and support to some or all of their international centres.
The decision is part of a change programme and according to Amanda Sergeant, head of delivery transition at CITB, the move will help them to “improve, become more efficient and be better able to meet the core skills needs of the construction industry in Great Britain,”
We understand that international centres have received communications regarding the decision and are currently awaiting further details on the impact of the decision.
The move has surprised many in the construction industry. UK health and safety standards are often upheld as best practice and UK training schemes are sought after worldwide.
Simon O’Donnell, Our Business Development Manager said, “Although disappointed we remain optimistic for the future of international scaffold training as we are able to provide other recognised qualifications under the CISRS Overseas Training Scheme as well our own International Scaffolder training, at accredited centres in a number of locations.”
