Most current pre-qualification processes operated by clients and Main Contractors specify that suppliers must demonstrate competence through assessment by an external third-party accreditation body. One of the most popular is CHAS, ‘The Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme’.
CHAS are founder members of SSIP – the ‘Safety Schemes in Procurement’ – Competence Forum and their assessment process involves a desktop assessment in which suppliers are required to demonstrate competence in key areas of health & safety management.
The aim of the scheme is to save time and resources by avoiding unnecessary duplication in the first stage of competence assessment which is amongst the core criteria of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
Simian has a track record in producing systems that enable clients to seek and maintain CHAS accreditation and we could help you too! For further information, please contact Susan Russell on 0345 602 2418 (option 1).
