The latest Pre-employment Training Scheme (PETS) to be held at our Leytonstone Centre has completed, and with that comes a cohort of Londoners who are now ready to pursue a career in scaffolding.

Simian career progression

Included in this latest cohort, were Waltham Forest residents, Alexandre and Michael, both of whom had no previous experience of scaffolding, but who are now holders of foundation scaffolding qualifications after completing their scaffolding industry induction at Simian’s LASC Centre in Cathall Road.

Speaking of his time with Simian, Twenty-year old Michael, who was previously unemployed, said: “I have been looking for work for a while, without much luck and before attending the course I wasn’t sure if it was for me, but after having the opportunity to get involved in scaffolding, I definitely now feel that it is an industry I can progress in”.

Alexandre, who is 48 and had previously worked in the hospitality industry, is also excited about the future opportunities that the PETS course will bring. He said, The main benefit I got from being at Simian was being able to learn how to work with scaffolding – this was a new experience for me. Simian has given me the opportunity to learn skills to start a new career”.

Simian’s PETs courses are aimed to get Londoners into paid employment and they now extend to programmes in  general construction, formwork, roof work, steelwork and scaffolding, with more construction trades scheduled to feature shortly.

Sara Calvo, Simian’s Business Development Manager for their South East area, said: “One of the best parts of my job is being able to watch learners develop new skills and open up new and different career paths. The PETS programme can quite literally be life-changing and Alexandre and Michael are just two examples of what the programme can do for people”.
