Meet the Team – Kieren Cattanach

Could you please tell us about your past work experience?

I started off as a Trainee Scaffolder before moving on to focus his time with a career in Health, Safety and construction compliance, I started off my career working with utility clients, completing substation and overhead line refurbishment. I then completed by NEBOSH qualification and gained a membership with IOSH, I also have my Teaching Qualifications so that I can education/train in Health and Safety, Including Mental Health and First Aid, which is thankfully now a main focus point in construction. Some of the key clients/projects have included working for Parliament in London, alongside the BBC for H&S assistance at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry & Meghan Markle, and working at both Gatwick & Heathrow Airports during major development work, I have also focused my career on Business compliance (working with standards ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 & 27001)

Can you describe a typical day at Simian?

This is my second week at Simian, and my typical day has been very busy working with such professionals from the Scaffolding and construction industry,

Is there one aspect of your work in particular that you most enjoy?

I love working within Health, Safety, and compliance, however one aspect of my work I do enjoy is developing compliant Management systems which are simplified and easy to follow for Scaffold and construction businesses, in turn this makes the helps with the business growth and operate more efficiently.

What advice would you give those considering a career in the construction industry?

The Advice I would give for those considering a career in the construction industry would be to DO IT! The Construction sector is a great place to work and most importantly there are lots of different career paths to follow, Health and Safety, Estimating, Surveying, Site Management.

In your opinion, what is the most important piece of guidance you give youngsters making their way in the industry?

The piece of guidance I would give to youngsters, would be to listen, learn and achieve and good things this will happen such as career progression etc.

Before working at Simian, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Before I started in in the construction sector, I worked in a bar and was a DJ so I would say this was a very interesting job, unfortunately this did not pay the BILLS! 😊

What would be your dream job?

I feel like I have my dream job because I certainly love what I do

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I would like tour America such as Las Vegas, Miami and New York hopefully this will happen next year 😊

Favourite film?

I haven’t really got a favourite film, however, do like action!

Favourite food?

I love Italian food (Pizza or Pasta!)

Have you ever had your 15 minutes of fame?

I have never had 15 minutes of fame unfortunately; However, I have worked on Royal Projects in my time in London.

Pub or wine bar?

I love going to the pub!
