LASC Celebrates its Official Launch

July saw the official launch of SIMIAN’s brand new LASC Centre (London Academy of Sustainable Construction), in Waltham Forest. The event celebrated the Centre’s achievement and showcase the employment and training opportunities it will provide Waltham Forest residents and the London construction industry, generally.
Following an address from SIMIAN’s Managing Director, Simon Hughes, the centre was officially opened on Thursday 22nd July by Councillor Simon Miller, with representatives from Waltham Forest Council, SIMIAN’s partners (including, NASC, Layher, NOCN, Spanset and Cool Energy) and SIMIAN.
The newest centre in our training portfolio, LASC, based in the heart of Waltham Forest, will continue to deliver the full CISRS scaffolding Curriculum, but will also have a sharp focus on benefiting the residents of Waltham Forest, in the form of:
- Pre-employment Training Schemes (PETS)
- Green Energy Skills Training
- Modern Methods of Construction
- Construction Engineering
- Digital Construction
- Apprenticeships
With the construction industry booming, but facing a significant skills shortage, the expansion of our training portfolio aims to meet local demand for a qualified workforce as well as providing increased opportunities for the residents of the London Borough of Waltham Forest.
The launch event also saw the official opening of the Green Skills Hub, an area dedicated to the delivery of Green Skills, meeting both the Retrofit agenda and New Build green initiatives. Councillor Clyde Loakes opened the Hub, which was followed by a presentation from Keith Butters of Cool Energy, suppliers of Air Source Heating Technology and key partners of the Green Energy Skills Training Alliance (GESTA).
This was followed by a centre tour from the expert team at SIMIAN, which highlighted the expansion of the CSCS suite, BIM suite and Multi-Trade Training area, all of which are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our latest cohort of delegates.
Speaking of the event, Simon Hughes, SIMIAN MD said:
“After what has been an incredibly challenging 18 months or so, it’s hugely rewarding to officially launch our newly branded London Academy of Sustainable Construction. Big thanks to the Simian team, our partners and Waltham Forest Council for their efforts in getting us to where we are today. Our intention is for LASC to become a benefit to the whole Waltham Forest community, and we have already seen some fantastic employment results for residents, but we aim to build on this and get more and more local people skilled and ready for work in the construction and green energy sectors”.
Cllr Simon Miller said, “I was delighted to be there to open the London Academy of Sustainable Construction Centre with Cllr Clyde Loakes and our partners SIMIAN. Connecting people with jobs is a key priority for the Council, especially in the wake of the pandemic. This partnership with SIMIAN is hugely important in creating a pathway to green jobs, making sure our people have the right skills and entrepreneurial support to benefit from the grown of the green economy, and help us tackle the climate emergency as we strive towards a net zero 2030 future.”
