Immersive Learning comes to LASC

In another move that is pushing the boundaries of current training convention, The London Academy of Sustainable Construction has been selected as a hub, for a superb CITB-funded initiative that aims to bring immersive training to a wider audience.

In conjunction with The Construction Wales Innovation Centre (CWIC) and The London Borough of Waltham Forest, the CONVERT immersive learning programme will arrive at LASC very early in the New Year.

The two-year, Great Britain-wide collaboration aims to deliver state-of-the-art immersive learning (IL) training/engagement solutions that will enhance the appeal of the industry, embed Immersive Learning into training programmes, and offer employers an insight into the opportunities and benefits of adopting IL technologies.

The Fully funded project is open to all Colleges, FE, HE and Apprenticeship providers, and features programmes covering:

• Scaffolding and Work at Height
• Building Construction
• Drone Operation
• Wood Machining and Paint Spraying

The technology will be based at LASC but can be borrowed, FREE OF CHARGE, by other training providers in the area.

Speaking about the initiative, Tim Gibbs, Quality and Curriculum Director at SIMIAN said:

“At the heart of our ethos at our LASC Centre is the desire to deliver a curriculum that challenges the norm, with the aim of promoting modern methods of construction and new and emerging green skills. The initiative with CWIC does just that, as it will embed an awareness of the availability and existence of cutting-edge technology into those who are making their way in the industry. This programme is another step on LASC’s journey into that world, and we are already making plans for the wider integration of immersive learning into all of our curriculum.”

To kick-start the programme, LASC will be hosting a taster session on 11 January 2022, and all local providers of funded learning are free to attend. The session will aim to introduce the technology and give an overview of how the scheme will work.
