From Roofing Labourer to Skilled Waterproof Membrane Apprentice

Harry began his career in construction working as a roofing labourer with Protech Roofing. Over his first year, he quickly gained a reputation for his commitment and work ethic, and recognising Harry’s potential, Protech Roofing made a significant decision—they chose to invest in his future by enrolling him in SIMIAN’s Waterproof Membrane Installer Apprenticeship.

One of the most significant skills Harry has taken away from the apprenticeship so far is learning how to cut corner details properly. Corner detailing is a crucial aspect of waterproofing—if done incorrectly, it can lead to leaks and costly repairs. Through hands-on training, Harry has mastered the precision required to ensure every corner is secure, no matter how complex the task. This skill has become one of his greatest achievements and something he now approaches with pride and professionalism.

When asked about his apprenticeship, Harry says, “I think SIMIAN and apprenticeships are a really good opportunity to turn young lads into professional roofers. I am only at the beginning of my program but already I have gained confidence in my skills and I will be able to take this on site.”

Harry’s newfound skills have not only boosted his confidence but have also significantly improved the quality and efficiency of the projects he works on at Protech Roofing.

Harry’s journey is just beginning, and his apprenticeship has laid a solid foundation for his future in the construction industry. With his new skills, he’s eager to take on more complex projects, continue working on his skills, and contribute to building safe, sound, and secure roofs.
