Archie’s Scaffolding Journey with Tiger Scaffolding and SIMIAN LASC

Just two weeks after finishing school, Archie began a scaffolding apprenticeship with Tiger Scaffolding and SIMIAN’s LASC.

When Archie left school with just one GCSE, he wasn’t sure what the future held. The classroom environment had never suited him, he struggled with ADHD, found it difficult to concentrate, and often faced exclusions. But just two weeks after finishing school, Archie began a scaffolding apprenticeship with Tiger Scaffolding. He enrolled at SIMIAN’s London Academy for Sustainable Construction (LASC), a decision that transformed his outlook entirely.

For Archie, hands-on learning, a structured routine, and physical activity gave him the focus and freedom his mind needed. “At school, I felt trapped. Being active frees my mind and I can think clearly and do more than one thing at once.”

Archie’s apprenticeship journey wasn’t without its challenges. On his first day, he struggled to lift a 10-foot tube and almost walked away. But with the inspiration of following in his father’s footsteps, himself a scaffolder and business owner, Archie stayed committed. That early struggle became a turning point, igniting a determination that has only grown stronger.

His time at Tiger Scaffolding has been central to his growth. Mentors Chris and Callum created a supportive environment that allowed Archie to gain confidence and showcase his abilities. Their patience and encouragement helped him realise he was capable of far more than he imagined.

Now, Archie is thriving. The apprenticeship hasn’t just improved his technical skills, it’s built his self-belief and shown him the wider possibilities in scaffolding. Whether it’s working locally or taking his skills abroad, the future feels open and full of opportunity.

Working on live sites has also sharpened his awareness of health and safety. Operating in public spaces has taught him how to stay focused, professional, and accountable in every situation.

Archie’s advice for others is grounded in real experience: persevere through the tough days, keep your work and home life separate, and never be put off by school results. Apprenticeships, he says, are for everyone willing to work hard and commit.

“My Scaffolding Apprenticeship has helped me to feel more confident in my work, and it has opened my eyes to the opportunities of scaffolding, whether that’s going abroad or staying as a scaffolder in the UK.”

Archie’s journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, the right training, and the right mindset, anything is possible.

SIMIAN and Tiger Scaffolding are proud to be part of Archie’s story and excited to see where he goes next.
