On Friday 12 November 2021, our apprenticeship team attended Sir Thomas Boteler High School’s careers day. This is an annual event held at the school for years 8 to 11, giving them the opportunity to speak face to face with universities, colleges and prospective employers from any one of a number of different sectors. There were 27 exhibitors at this years’ event, including The British Army, Chester University, Murphy Group, Warrington and Vale college and of course SIMIAN.
This is a fantastic event that gives students a chance to get an idea of the opportunities available to them after finishing school. It also gives them the opportunity to ask employers/colleges and universities about the entry requirements that might apply to enable them to pursue their chosen career paths.
During our visit students were able to talk to James Gregson, SIMIAN Assessor and CISRS Advanced Scaffolder. As part of our display James brought along and modelled his tools and harness for the students, we also brought along two miniature scaffold models which created a lot of discussion and interest.
By the end of the morning we had obtained a list of emails from students interested in pursuing one of our course, after leaving school. We were also approached by a member of staff enquiring on behalf of a student who had graduated, this year who is interested in an apprenticeship in scaffolding. We have extended an invite for him to attend one of our induction days at our Warrington centre, and we hope to see him soon.
Simian will be returning to Sir Thomas Boteler in February 2022, as part of their apprenticeship week event, and we will be speaking to a more defined group of attendees about our range of apprenticeship courses, and what opportunities for development are available in the industry.
