As part of our celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, we hosted JOBSFEST at SIMIAN’s London Academy of Sustainable Construction (LASC).

Aimed at schools and residents from the London Borough of Waltham Forest, the event was for those looking to pursue a career in construction.

With over 26 employer exhibitors looking for new starters for their organisations, as well as demos, a jobs board, and even initial interview space for potential discussions between candidates and employers, the event was not one to be missed! Some of the employers taking part included:

• Taylor Wimpey
• Astons
• Lee Marley

What happened at JOBSFEST?

A number of demos ran throughout the day, hosted by industry experts, including:

• Lead and metal bossing – hosted by the Lead Sheeting Training Academy
• Roofing (slating and tiling) – hosted by SIMIAN
• Groundworker (concrete/ paving) – hosted by SIMIAN
• Scaffolding – hosted by SIMIAN

Our Enterprise Hub hosted CADCOE on hand to offer advice and workshops on Digital Engineering, whilst Astons hosted a workshop on electrician apprenticeships.

Speaking of the event, our Operations Director, Dave Randles has said:

“What an event! This was a fantastic opportunity for the local community in Waltham Forest to gain insight into a career in the construction industry, meet potential employers, learn more about training prospects and even take those crucial first steps into their future career.”

Business Development Manager for the South East, Sara Calvo, went on to say:

“We had 75 residents/students through the doors, the workshops were full, and the employer/exhibitors had some great conversations with the attendees with hope of employing some. There was plenty of networking too with everyone making new connections. We’re all looking forward to the next job fair. Roll on October!”
